Latvian poet Andris Ogriņš dies aged 48

Latvian poet Andris Ogriņš (1975–2023) has died aged 48, his ex-wife Anda Ogriņa said on Facebook Monday.

Andris Ogriņš published eight poetry books between 2008 and 2023. His first book, "Es zvēru pie kraukļiem" ("I swear to ravens") awarded him the annual Latvian literature prize for the best debut.

The final book, "Par bites tiesu" ("By a bee's breadth"), came out this year. Literary reviewer Aija Bremšmite wrote: "Andris Ogriņš has written an entire volume about living, about being here and now, which has turned out to be a human's greatest challenge. To be but at the same tome to be unable to lie – it is the greatest paradox of the day."

Our sincere condolences to Ogriņš' family and friends.
