Latvian poet, translator Amanda Aizpuriete dies

Latvian poet and translator Amanda Aizpuriete (1956-2023), has died, her son Aksels Hiršs confirmed on social media Sunday.

Amanda Aizpuriete was a poet, writer, and translator. She has published ten poetry volumes and a novel. Aizpuriete entered the literary world in the mid-70s, taking an active stand against the double morality of Soviet society and writing honestly about the unpleasant sides of life .

She translated around 40 novels from English, German, and Russian, and poetry from German, Russian, Ukrainian and English, for which she has received numerous awards.
