Ostapenko and Kichenok finish runners-up at Australian Open

Latvian tennis player Aļona Ostapenko, in tandem with her Ukrainian partner Lyudmyla Kichenok, lost in the final of the Australian Open women's doubles final in Melbourne on Sunday.

Nevertheless a second placed finish is an excellent achievement for the exciting duo and another slice of Grand Slam fame for former French Open winner Ostapenko.

In the final, Ostapenko and Kichenok lost to Taiwanese tennis player Su-Wei Hsieh and Belgium's Elisa Mertens in two sets 1-6, 5-7.

At the presentation ceremony, Ostapenko emphasized that it is still only the beginning of the year, and she hopes for the duo to reach more than one final during the season.

Ostapenko and Kichenok were seeded 11th in the doubles, while their opponents were the second seeds.
