Valmiera Summer Theater Festival takes center stage

Latvia's northern city of Valmiera is the place for theater lovers to head to this weekend with the staging of the annual Summer Theater Festival on August 4, 5 and 6.

The Valmiera Summer Theatre Festival is a performing arts festival set in an urban environment – though happily the urban environment in Valmiera is often quite green. Speaking of green, the festival takes a sustainable approach by largely avoiding printed materials.

The Valmiera Summer Theatre Festival program is built around works created specifically for the event by local and international artists with the city of Valmiera serving as a backdrop with unusual locations for original productions and unique events for the entire family. Every other year, the program is geared towards performances for children and teenagers, and this year is one of them.

This year's highlights include 'Figūras' ('Figures') which is described as "a play for children with stunt elements", and 'Skolotājas' ('Teachers') which is described as "a peculiar outdoor lesson". Performances are in Latvian.
