Latvia's retail trade turnover fell by 0.4 % in February

Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) and published March 28 show that, compared to February 2023, in February 2024 total retail trade turnover reduced by 0.4 %.

Retail trade in food products remained unchanged, retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) reduced by 1.5 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel increased by 1.7 %.

As compared to February 2023, the largest turnover rise was registered in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 9.4 %), retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (9.1 %) and retail sale of cosmetics and toiletries (7.3 %).

A turnover drop of 24.3 % was registered in non-specialized stores selling mainly non-food products, and was affected by the change in kind of primary economic activity of separate enterprises, retail sale of hardware, instruments, construction materials and sanitary equipment (10.3 %) and retail sale in stalls or markets (5.3 %).

Total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 2.2 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).

Compared to January, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in February 2024 rose by 0.6 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 1.4%. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 0.9 %, turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel fell by 1.6 %.

As compared to the previous month, the most significant turnover increase was recorded in retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 4.7 %), retail sale in stalls or markets (4.6 %) and retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (4.1 %). The largest turnover drop was recorded in non-specialized stores selling mainly non-food products (of 2.8 %).

Compared to January, in February 2024 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) decreased by 1.7 %.
