Latvian retail sector on the rise in May

Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to May 2017, in May 2018 total retail trade turnover rose by 7 %. 

Turnover of retail trade in food products increased by 6.5 %, while turnover of retail trade in non-food products and retail sale of automotive fuel rose by 7.3 %.

Compared to May of the previous year, the most significant turnover growth within the non-food products group was recorded in retail sale of hardware, paints and glass (of 26.4 %), retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 13 %), as well as retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (of 14.6 %).The largest turnover drop was observed in retail sale via stalls and markets (of 6.4 %), as well as in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (7.2 %).

The total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 9.7 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).

Compared to April, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in May 2018 grew by 3.4 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Compared to April, in May 2018 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) increased by 10.8 %.
