In the 1st quarter of this year, there were 74.7 thousand unemployed persons aged 15 to 74, which is by 0.4 thousand less than a year ago and by 0.9 thousand less than in the previous quarter.

In the 4th quarter of 2020, the unemployment rate in Latvia (7.9%) was 0.6 percentage points higher than the average indicator (7.3%).of the European Union (EU) Member States. In the 1st quarter of 2021, Latvia had the highest unemployment rate in the Baltic States - in Estonia unemployment rate was 7.1%, but in Lithuania - 7.5%.
n the 1st quarter of 2021, one third (33.0 %) or 457.4 thousand people aged 15 to 74 were inactive, i.e. were not employed and did not actively look for work. Compared to the previous quarter, the number of inactive population has increased by 31.2 thousand or 7.3%, but over the year - by 39.8 thousand or 9.5%.
