Police said that at about 17:00 on Sunday, State Police received information that a crash between a Mercedes-Benz car and a VDL bus had occurred in Mārupe municipality, Salas parish, near Spuņciems on highway A10.
The driver and passenger of the car lost their lives in the accident. 17 people in the bus, including the bus driver, have been injured.
Traffic was temporarily blocked but later restored.
The bus was en route from Rīga to Kuldīga, and passengers who did not require hospitalization were transported to another bus.
Meanwhile, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) said the two fatalities had to be released using hydraulic tools. Bus passengers were assisted by medics from the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD). NMPD said that a total of 17 injured, including 3 children, were taken to hospital. The children had mild injuries, while adults had mostly suffered moderate injuries, and two had severe injuries. A total of 13 medical crews were working at the scene.
