Drivers asked to reckon with roadworks in Latvia

Latvian State Roads (LVC) reminded the public on Monday April 15 that extensive roadworks are starting throughout the country and that drivers should count on more time on the road.

On the Rīga Bypass (Baltezers-Saulkalne, A4) the bridge over the Daugavpils Highway (A6) will be restored. As of Monday, April 15, traffic on the transmission is organized in one lane.

The speed limit is set there to 50 km/h, the width limit is 3.25 m.

A narrowing of the road will also be under the overpass on the Ogre highway A6. Traffic restrictions at the A4/A6 road hub will have to be reckoned with all summer.

Elsewhere in the country's road network, construction works are taking place in 18 more stages. The most extensive construction works take place on the country's regional roads.

Major traffic restrictions are imposed on the following sections:

  • on the Ventspils-Kolka (P124) section of the road from Ventspils to Liepene, three sections of traffic lights, and speed limits of 70 and 50 km/h. The estimated time of crossing the repair section is 35 minutes;
  • on the Skrunda-Aizpute (P117) section of the motorway behind Kazdanga, one reverse section, a speed limit of 70 and 50 km/h. The estimated time of crossing the repair section is 30 minutes;
  • traffic is closed on the bridge over the Vēdzele River on the regional motorway Tukums-Kuldiga (P121). You can take a detour on by Aizstrauši-Starpiņas (V1478) and Kandava-Saldus (P109) and must count on an additional 20 minutes en route;
  • on the Smiltene-Valka (P24) section of the road from Smiltene to Blome-Birzuļi-Palsmane (V243), traffic is controlled by traffic lights, speed limit 70 and 50 km/h in three stages. Estimated time of crossing the repair section is 15 minutes.

Latvian State Roads has a map of roadworks on its website.
