Fixed-fee rides to city center to be introduced for airport taxis starting May

Take note – story published 5 years ago

The Transport Ministry has proposed introducing a fixed fee for taxi rides from the Rīga International Aiport to the city center, Transport Minister Tālis Linkaits (New Conservative Party) told Latvian Radio February 21.

The regulations would also see quality requirements put to taxi drivers working at airports, bus stations, ports and train stations. To work at these locations, drivers would have to have a license.

Linkaits said that carriers will be able to set the ride prices themselves, ensuring competitive fees.

Drivers going to other locations will be able to choose a different offer.

Among other things, the new regulations would try to prevent a practice whereby fictitiously low fees are issued for rides, presumably for the goal of avoiding taxes.

It is planned that these amendments would come into force May 1.
