State Chancellery's director suspended over Kariņš' flights

Prime Minister Evika Siliņa (New Unity) has ordered the suspension of the Director of the State Chancellery Jānis Citskovskis, according to a statement on April 10.

This has been done for the service inspection period, and the inspection is related to special flights of Krišjānis Kariņš.

Siliņa ordered an inspection of the chancellery's service in late March, when the Prosecutor General's Office began criminal proceedings into alleged money squandering on the flights in Kariņš' missions.

In explaining Citskovskis' suspension, the Prime Minister pointed to the State Audit Office's allegations, which are serious enough. “I believe that the suspension is necessary for the service investigation to take place as objectively as possible,” Siliņa said.

In a statement to the media, the State Chancellery's communications department said that during the suspension, the director's duties will be assigned to the Deputy Director of the State Chancellery in legal matters Inese Gailīte.

The Chancellery has commented on the report of the State Audit Office saying that the Prime Minister's office was the institution ordering and organizing flights and the Chancellery only executed the orders.
