New Saeima deputy takes up mandate of disgraced predecessor

On Thursday, February 22, the Saeima approved Amils Salimovs from the political party "Stability!" as its newest member.

Before the vote, which was essentially a formality and won by by 79 votes to 0, Salimovs gave the solemn promise of a deputy, which he confirmed with his signature.

Salimovs becomes one of 100 members of the 14th Saeima after his disaster-prone predecessor Glorija Grevcova had her mandate revoked after being found guilty of lying in submissions to the electoral authorities, as previously reported by LSM.

Salimovs' inclusion is good news for his party, as latterly Grevcova had been acting as an independent member of parliament. With the mandate now returned to the party from which she was originally elected, its strength rises from 9 to 10 deputies.
