Security Service investigates potential electronics supply to Russia

The State Security Service (VDD) has initiated criminal proceedings against representatives of a company registered in Latvia regarding the supply of electronic components for military use to Russia, the Service said December 11.

Criminal proceedings have been commenced on November 28 of this year in accordance with the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia (Section 84, Paragraph one of the Criminal Law).

The information obtained during the VDD investigation shows that the company registered in Latvia has supplied electronics components used in the manufacture of military goods to a company in Russia worth more than half a million euros.

On December 4 of this year, within the framework of criminal proceedings, VDD carried out criminal proceedings at six facilities related to the Latvian company in Riga, during which officials of the Service removed a large number of documents and data carriers for in-depth investigation.

Three persons associated with the company were detained by the VDD during criminal proceedings. Currently, two suspects have been placed under detention as a security measure, while one of the detainees has been placed under non-custodial security.
