Flowers lie in Sloka, the place where a 13-year-old was stabbed by his peer. The tragedy has shocked the local community.
Knowing that teenagers have also recently killed adults in Rezekne raises the question of how safe the country can feel right now.
“It's safe in Jūrmala. This is a kind of conflict that has arisen in a specific subcultural environment, which unfortunately has had severe consequences,“ said the chief of the police's Jūrmala precinct Kaspars Rekscs.
'We continue to monitor the order and patrol. Before, in partnership with municipal police, we covered the area to have a shorter response time to any event. And it also worked that very quickly, the police were there,” Rekscs said.
However, State Police are appealing for anyone who sees underage people on the street or in another public place after 22:00 evening to report it to law enforcement.
