Man sentenced to prison for sexual abuse of minors

Riga District Court has imposed a sentence of 18 years and six months in prison on a man who, between December 2022 and April 2023, performed acts of a sexual nature with six boys aged 9 to 14 years old, the Latvian public Prosecutor's Office reported February 15.

The man was convicted of engaging in physical contact of a sexual nature with the six boys, using trust, influence, and state of helplessness, and in four cases, he committed acts of a sexual nature without physical contact with the victim's body.

To commit the crimes, the man provided the boys with the opportunity to spend time at his residence, play computer games, watch videos on websites, food and drink, cigarettes, and alcohol, and gave money for daily spending. After gaining influence over the affected children, the man showed the boys videos of pornographic content and performed sexual acts in front of other boys, endangering their sexual inviolability and normal physical and mental development.

Riga District Court found the man guilty of committing the aforementioned offenses, punishing him with deprivation of liberty for 18 years and six months and probation supervision for five years.

The prosecution said the crimes committed by the accused were of a high degree of harm as they violated the child's fundamental right to personal integrity, morals, and sexual inviolability.

In addition, the accused has been punished in the past, including for sexual offenses. He committed the new offenses during a predetermined punishment sentence - probation supervision.
