As reported, on Monday, KNAB visited the city council's department and it was unofficially reported that Vaivods was detained.
In the pre-trial investigation of the KNAB, it was found that Jānis Vaivods, acting director of Riga City Council's Outdoors and Mobility Department (previously Transport Department) may have made a bribe offer to another public official to use his position of service and take a favorable decision in the interests of the bribe provider.
The KNAB commenced criminal proceedings on January 8 for the alleged offense.
Two persons involved in criminal proceedings have the right of defense. Currently, one person is placed on non-custodial security.
KNAB said the pre-trial investigation is not related to the day-to-day activities of Riga City Council's department.
