Invitation issued to become a military reservist

Latvia's National Armed Forces (NBS) is inviting citizens between the ages of 18 and 55 years of age to consider the joining the country's military reserve forces.

Undergoing reservist military training is an alternative to joining the National Guard and gives an opportunity for citizens without previous military training  a chance to undergo basic military training prescribed for service in the reserve.

Citizens who successfully complete the basic military training course for reservists will take a soldier's oath, receive a reserve soldier's certificate, a mobilization assignment and will be enrolled in the NBS reserve as a reserve soldier.

The basic military training course for reservists in 2024 will be organized for three weeks from July 27 to August 17, and people can apply for it until June 1 by filling out the application form online on the unified recruitment platform "klustikaravirs.lv".

The video below shows reservist training from last year.

In the Reservist Basic Military Knowledge and Skills Basic Course, a reservist acquires basic military skills such as weapons handling, combat shooting, communications training, regulatory acts, field combat skills, topography, orientation and medicine. The training involves both theoretical and practical tests.

During military training, reservists will be provided with living space in barracks or in the field as well as uniforms, necessary equipment and inventory.

Reservists are paid compensation of 41.75 euros per day for each day of military training, paid within a month after the end of the training course. Reservists will be provided with meals or will receive a soldier's allowance, which is 14 euros per day.

The basic military training course for reservists will take place in Alūksne, but before the start of the course, assembly points will be opened in Gulbene, Valmiera, Jēkabpils, Saldus and Rīga, from which reservists will be transported to and from the training site. A free weekend will be planned during the course over August 3 and 4.

Latvian citizens - men and women - without military training, aged between 18 and 55, who have at least basic education and speak the national language at the intermediate B1 level, can apply for the training course. Reservists will be accepted for military training if they meet the health condition specified for service in the reserve, which will be checked by a medical commission.

Information on applying for the reservist's basic training course is available on the unified recruitment platform "klustikaravirs.lv" or by calling a special information line, 67800270, on weekdays from 09:00 to 16:00 or by e-mailing [email protected]
