A disciplinary punishment has been imposed on one professor, another has been suspended, and several offices are lost.
The Academy website shows that Māris Kupčs, whose name has already been heard in the sexual harassment allegations, is no longer the head of the Ancient Music Department.
Another department without a head is Music Technology Department which used to be led by Rolands Kronlaks.
Both have their offices indicated on the website as assistant professors rather than department heads. LTV has information from various sources that both these names have been mentioned in the current case. Kronlaks admitted to LTV that a disciplinary measure had been imposed on him and that he had crossed boundaries in correspondence with a student, and that he had stepped down from his senator's position.
The academy's lawyer Ieva Kalniņa told LTV that no more than five new submissions had been received by the establishment, but in some cases, the victims go straight to police.
Kalniņa: "The submissions come, but rather slowly. I assume that not only to us. There are some that go to other institutions, like the police. The academy has no more than five submissions.
LTV: "The changes in department head positions. Are they related?"
Kalniņa: "I cannot disclose this information due to data protection."
LTV: "But can you confirm there are changes?"
Kalniņa: "Of course. You see it on the website. Yes. The reason for the changes I cannot say."
The Rector also faces suspension. On March 11, the Council of the Academy of Music voted no confidence in the Rector Gunārs Prānis and called for his resignation. On March 12, Prānis announced that he did not intend to resign, which led the Council to say that it would call on the Senate of the JVLMA to convene an extraordinary session to decide on the rector's dismissal.
Latvian Radio unofficially knows that the rector's fate will be decided in early April.
The students' self-government of the academy admitted that the rector should not be removed from his post, as many lecturers, including students, are against his resignation. The self-administration also admitted that many mistakes have been made over the years, but they trust the rector and believe that Prānis can solve the problems.
However, the Council has not yet received a detailed plan from the Rector to remedy the situation, and the Rector's Office has not really communicated about what is happening this week. Prānis said that a plan is ready and a meeting has been convened for Monday, which will be attended by the students' self-government, the council and the president of the Senate, Ilona Meija.
