Police: be careful with inflatables in the sea

Riga Municipal Police (RPP) rescued a nine-year-old boy on Vakarbuļļi beach on Sunday, July 16, who had drifted far behind the buoys on an inflatable, RPP spokesman Toms Sadovskis said.

“On the shore, the law enforcement handed the boy over to his mother, who was reminded that inflatable mattresses should be used very carefully in the sea,” Sadovskis said.

A couple of hours later, a similar situation occurred on Vecāķi Beach, where two young men were unable to reach the beach on an inflatable.

The RPP points out that inflatable watercraft at sea should only be used as a swimming assistant and not, for example, for lounging. “As the wind blows off the coast, it can get dangerously far in a few minutes,” the RPP said.
