State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received a call at 15:16 about smoke coming from the third-floor window of a three-story apartment house in Rīga. On arrival at the scene, the firefighters found that the smoke had spread to the stairway.
Searching the third-floor apartment, two children were found, whom firefighters carried outside.
Although medics, including through the involvement of a team of specialists, were taking long-term resuscitation measures and fighting for the lives of victims, it was no longer possible to save them.
Four Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) brigades were working on the ground, including a specialist team of doctors, NMPD told LETA.
Rescuers continue to work at the site of the event.
