Shoes lined up in central Rīga campaigning against violence

Marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on Friday the society “The Woman got Lucky” (Sievietei paveicās) in collaboration with Riga Zonta Club, holds a campaign "Where'd she go?" on Friday, November 24.

In Rīga, Brīvības Alley opposite the government building, pairs of shoes are laid out symbolizing women dying violent deaths.

Everyone has been invited to bring a pair of shoes to the alley, with which they would like to remind the public and government of the need to eradicate violence, the organizers said.

According to the information at the disposal of the association, one in three Latvian women has experienced psychological, physical, or sexual violence or a combination of several forms of violence in a relationship. According to the association, violence is still very common and, moreover, accepted in society.
