Current boss to head LTV five more years

The National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) will keep Ivars Belte as the head of Latvian Television (LTV) for five more years. The two other board members will be picked in a competition when their term in office runs out, reported LSM Wednesday.

As well as acting as a watchdog with the power to take action if illegal or inappropriate material is broadcast, NEPLP is also in overall charge of the funding of public broadcasting in Latvia, including the LSM news portals in Latvian, Russian and English.

The news comes after a February 24 NEPLP meeting where the board evaluated the 2013-2016 performance of Belte, as well as of Sergejs Ņesterovs, in charge of program development, and Māris Skujiņš, responsible for financial and technological matters. Only Belte will invariably keep his position.

The term of office of the current board runs out April 8.
