On March 8, the International Women's Day, about 100 people went on a solidarity march in central Riga, reported Latvian Radio.

Women marched from the Saeima to the Freedom Monument carrying placards, such as "Stupid laws are crippling the society", "I am not the rib of a man, and my rib is not a punching bag" and others.

This year, the event aimed to draw attention to domestic violence, with participants asked to dress in red or pink to express solidarity with victims of violence and sexual violence.

There were also male participants who said they're marching because "violence is not male or female".

It was organized by the Women's Stand-up, with support from the Feminist Forum and the MARTA Resource Center for Women.

Participants criticized Latvia's stance over the Istanbul Convention, and the repeat attempts to impose an egg donation ban on women who have not given birth.

Just on March 7, a Saeima committee turned down the initiative for a civil partnership law, a step that was likewise criticized by the participants.
