Latvia might be in for earliest summer ever

At the end of April, a meteorological summer could start in parts of Latvia, which would be the earliest summer since weather observations have been performed in Latvia, according to weatherman Toms Bricis.

Warmth will return to Latvia very gradually in the coming days, but the temperature will start rising faster over the weekend. Next week the weather in Latvia will be mostly sunny and dry, the temperature in the afternoons will be +17 C to +22 C, some days +23 C to +25 C. At night, the minimum temperature will be mostly within +8 C to +13 C.

Consequently, in the last days of the month, the average daily temperature in Latvia will be at least 15 degrees.

The meteorological summer begins when the average temperature is 15 degrees and above for five consecutive days. The first day of this period is determined as the beginning of summer.

Current forecasts show a high likelihood of heat starting this weekend lasting at least five days.

Until now, the earliest start of the meteorological summer in Latvia was in 2018 – summer began on May 9, but in some parts of the country already on May 7.
