So far, the highest March air temperature ever recorded in the territory of Latvia is 20.8 degrees. It was recorded on March 30, 1968, in Mērsrags.
Current forecasts suggest Thursday will be sunny and +10 to +15 degrees warm, even warmer in southwest Kurzeme.
It will rain in many places on Friday and get a little cooler - maximum temperatures around +8 C to +13 C.
Saturday will be sunny again and temperatures will climb, but on Sunday, temperatures will reach even +16 C to +21. In the afternoon, local thunderstorms can form in some places.
Warm weather is also likely to remain on Monday, but temperatures will drop after the holiday.
Snow is possible in the middle of next week, with some frost expected at night.
The cold isn't likely to stay for long, though - warmer weather will follow after just two cool days.
This will not be the warmest Easter Latvia has had. In the years when Easter is later in April, the weather has been warmer. The Easter heat record is held in 2000, when temperatures reached 27.9 degrees in Riga on the second day of Easter, April 24. However, of the Easters that have been at the end of March, the highest temperature was on March 30, 2002, with +15.4 C in the vicinity of Jēkabpils.
