Latvian film included in Berlin Film Festival program

A new Latvian film will have its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, it has been confirmed.

The program of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival has been announced, and features the premiere of the film “Maria’s Silence” (Marijas klusums) by director Dāvis Sīmanis, produced by Latvian film studio Mistrus Media, on the evening of February 18.

“Maria’s Silence” is an historical drama based on the life story of the German silent film and theater star Maria Leiko – a famous actress who late in her career has to decide between fame and love for her grandchild, with Stalinist ideological complications in the background.
