'Artdocfest' film festival to take place in Rīga in March

From March 1 to 8, Riga will host the 4th International documentary film festival “Artdocfest/Riga”, organizers said January 16.

More than 30 documentaries will be screened during two competition programs – Baltic Focus and Artdocfest Open. A number of special sessions and three thematic programs - “ArtDoc & ProArt,” “Ukraine above Everything” and “Peace in War” - will also welcome viewers.

On March 1, the “Artdocfest/Riga” shows will be opened by the premiere of a film about the outstanding and prematurely deceased Latvian documentary film director Juris Podnieks.

“Interviews, hitherto unreleased diary records, photo and film excerpts reveal the curves of creative personality growth,” the film's annotation reads. “Juris Podnieks was able to speak directly and sharply about time, society, the individual and the nation, seeking answers to difficult questions in history and urging the rise of his nation's self-confidence.”

“Artdocfest/Riga” film sessions will take place in the cinema “Splendid Palace”, as well as in the art center “Zuzeum”.
