1. Untamed sounds
On Friday the Skaņu Mežs (Forest of Sounds) experimental music festival takes off at the Palladium concert hall. This year, it's dedicated to electronica and experiments within and without the genre.
Squarepusher, the electronica artist and bass guitar player from the UK, will be the crown of the evening, presenting an audio-visual show along with material from his new album.
Powell, another act from the UK will play robust, noisy and structurally unexpected dance music. A number of musicians from the newly created Shape platform for innovative music will also perform - including trance innovator Lorenzo Senni
Expect Rīga to stay a bit weird (in a good way) for quite some time, as musicians will continue taking the stage the next weekend on October 9 and 10.
2. Extravagant still life
What do you see in the above painting, titled Her? If it's not just an apple, you're in the right place.
An exhibition by Anete Lesīte (full disclosure: she's also a journalist at Latvian Television), called Erotic dreams features quietly lascivious paintings proving that fruit and vegetables can be suggestively intimate too.
Her story about the relationship between men and women is on show at Kalnciems gallery at Kalnciema st. 35 in Rīga, every day except Sunday from 10 to 22.
3. Discover Latvia through Geocaching
Pupils from all across Latvia placed 99 geocaches across the country, leaving their tracks in the Tracks of Europe in Latvia 2015 project. It started on October 1 and will conclude on October 31.
Some of the caches contain gift vouchers (though only one gift, located in Daugavpils, hasn't been found yet), and those who'll have found the most caches will be presented with special prizes. Here's the Geocaching user of the initiative, and its Facebook page can be found here.
4. Built-to-fit comfort
After having your perspective utterly destroyed by experimental music and after a long run in the woods, visiting a furniture exhibition may indeed by quite calming.
The annual Baltic Furniture exhibition at Ķīpsala, held from October 2 to 4, is the largest furniture, interiors, and lighting design fair in the Baltics.
Visitors will not only be able to view an extensive and diverse exhibition of furniture manufacturers from the Baltics, but will also to take advantage of valuable expert advice, place individual orders, and receive appealing price offers. Ordering furniture from the internet is so 2000-and-late - you have to touch it to really feel it!
