First ever 'Startup Awards' presented

September 8 saw the handing-out of Latvia's first-ever Startup Awards at a ceremony in Rīga.

Winners were announced in various different categories that saw companies walking away with trophies for the boardroom.

"The purpose of the Latvian Startup Awards is to honour remarkable accomplishments, breakthroughs, and triumphs of startups. It is a testament to their unwavering dedication and unwavering spirit," said organizers of the idea behind the awards.

The initiative is run by the NGO and non-profit Latvian Startup Association Startin.LV, which represents startup interests.

Attending the awards ceremony was President Edgars Rinkēvičs who said: "Today's awarded companies are a vivid example of the fact that we do not lack ambitions to change Latvia. The ideas of start-ups change the way industries work and develop innovations. Latvia needs economic changes, and start-ups must be a part of them."
