'Depo' fire warrants second-largest insurance payment ever in Latvia

Take note – story published 3 years ago

Fire in the DIY store 'Depo' in December last year has been followed by the second largest insurance payment in Latvian  history, according to insurer Ergo March 3.

A total of EUR 5.8 million has been paid in insurance, said Ergo. A higher sum of insurance has only been paid for the burnt-down warehouse of Mikrotikls in 2019 - EUR 37 million.

The fire at the Depo DIY store/warehouse building broke out on 12 December last year, sending 13,500 square meters and all the equipment and supplies up in smoke.

Losses caused by business interruption are still being calculated.

Andris Kozlovskis, chairman of the Depo DIY board, said that the compensation would allow re-establishment of business in Rēzekne.
