Ministry of Economy offers support for tourism sector in Latvia

The Economics Ministry offers support mechanisms for accommodation and catering sectors, the Ministry informed the media in a statement on May 20.

Accommodation and catering, which had virtually stopped working due to the state of emergency, are presented with a 2-step support mechanism to encourage resumption of business during the tourism season. The mechanism consists of:

1. Grants for employment to entrepreneurs providing accommodation, hospitality or tourism operator services. The finance may be used to cover various operational costs, including employee salaries, rent of premises, purchase of goods, etc.

2. Interest-free unsecured funds loan for the renewal of activity.

The Ministry has yet to assess how to address the issue travel compensation provided by tourism operators on agencies, how to offer employee training for autumn/winter season and other matters.

The Economics Ministry has already developed support measures for the tourism sector. Conceptually, cost cover of EUR 788 334 85 is supported for those merchants who conducted repatriation services before state of emergency.

Together with the Ministry of Health and the Center for Disease and Prevention, safe travel guidelines have been developed, which will be presented by the Latvian Investment and Development Agency this week.

Promotional campaigns for neighboring countries are also planned.
