Traffic accident death figures on the rise in Latvia

142 people died in traffic accidents in Latvia last year, which is 27 more than a year ago, according to information compiled by the State Police on February 20.

In 2020, 132 people lost their lives in this way, 141 in 2021, and 115 in 2022.

Last year, most often, road users lost their lives in vehicle collisions, in collisions with pedestrians, and with cars rolling over.

382 people were severely injured last year, down 47 from a year earlier. Last year, 3,783 road users were lightly injured by crashes, up 190 from 2022.

Last year, a total of 18,899 traffic accidents were recorded in the country, down 260 from a year earlier.

Last year, a total of 3,413 criminal and administrative infringement proceedings were initiated for driving under the influence. A year earlier, there were 4,297. Last year 815 vehicles were seized from drunk drivers driving under the influence.
