The Rīga Municipal Police (RPP) have started a total of 153 administrative infringement proceedings in relation to the alleged failure to comply with COVID-19 restrictions, RPP Chief Juris Lūkass said at a press conference December 8.

He said that since the state of emergency has been announced, a total of 333 calls had been made to the RPP for a possible violation of COVID-19 restrictions. 153 administrative infringement proceedings have been initiated so far, 168 warnings have been issued.

"Basically, the proceedings are initiated  for not wearing masks where it is mandatory. But there is also one other trend at the moment, particularly over last weekend, when police officers found private parties organized in apartments.

In the future, I see the greatest risk exactly in the segment of this infringement – this uncontrolled gathering of people contributes to the spread of this virus," Lūkass said.

According to Lūkass, there is no cause for “great optimism”, so the RPP will continue to be involved in controlling COVID-19 restrictive rules.
