Fire engines, 4x4 vehicles head to Ukraine from Latvia

A fresh batch of pickup trucks, 4x4s and fire engines was on the way to the front lines in Ukraine from Latvia October 11.

The core of the latest vehicles has been donated by the State Border Guard, supplemented by pickup trucks purchased by Latvian and Estonian businessmen, as well as fire engines donated by the State Forestry Service.

"Ukraine needs the support of all of us, but not only moral support is important, it is even more important to support Ukraine practically in the fight against Russian aggression," said Guntis Pujāts, head of the State Border Guard.

Five GAZ and ZIL fire trucks donated by the State Forestry Service will go to Slovyansk, Zaporizhzhia and Sumy, where rescuers from local administrations and the armed forces are waiting for them in order to respond to Russia's continuous crimes.

"Thanks to the fact that the Latvian government has supported the purchase of forest firefighting equipment, the State Forestry Service has partially renovated its fleet. After evaluating the existing resources and referring to the request and needs of our Ukrainian colleagues, we have found an opportunity to put five fire trucks at Ukraine's disposal... we very much hope that these machines will be useful to our Ukrainian colleagues," Arvīds Ozols, General Director of the State Forest Service said.

Since the full-scale attack on the armed forces and civilians of Ukraine, the Foundation Entrepreneurs for Peace has sent aid worth more than EUR 7.7 million, in cooperation with Latvian businessmen, as well as the Ministry of Defense and the National Armed Forces.
