"The purpose of the assessment visit was to visit and get acquainted with the Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Land Forces, about which Latvia annually provides general military information within the framework of the obligations set out in the OSCE Vienna Document," said a Defense Ministry statement.
"By receiving visits to their forces, OSCE participating States demonstrate their openness and commitment to their international obligations under the Vienna Document, which provides for an annual voluntary exchange of military information, assessment visits and inspections between OSCE participating States."
According to the OSCE quotas, Latvia must host one assessment visit and three arms control inspections per year. Similarly, Latvia conducts arms control inspections and assessment visits to other OSCE participating States.
