Flu, Covid figures still on the decline in Latvia

Last week's data show that the number of flu and Covid-19 patients continues to decline, the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said April 3.

Last week, a total of 610 patients approached general practitioners with acute symptoms of upper respiratory infection, 98 of whom had been diagnosed with “influenza” based on a typical clinical picture (a week ago 137 patients, two weeks ago 180 patients).

Cases have been registered in Ventspils, Rēzekne, Jēkabpils municipality, Daugavpils, Rīga, Liepāja, Jūrmala, and Valmiera municipality. Flu cases have been recorded in all age groups. The highest influenza intensity was recorded in the 0-4 age group.

Since the start of the season, 3,300 clinical cases of influenza have been recorded.

One person died from the flu over the past week (a total of 56 people have died since week 40, 2023). All the dead have also had several side ailments besides the flu.

The number of Covid-19 cases in Latvia also continues to decrease – 18 cases have been laboratory confirmed (a week ago 17), a total of 513 (previously 660) laboratory tests have been performed for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus. 20 Covid-19 patients are in hospital (17 a week earlier, 36 two weeks earlier).

One death of Covid-19 patients (a week earlier - 3) was recorded last week.
