Flu and Covid rates drop in Latvia

The prevalence of both influenza and Covid-19 continued to decrease in Latvia last week, but a total of 9 people died from these diseases during the week, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) data of March 27.

Last week, 725 patients approached general practitioners with acute symptoms of upper respiratory infection, 137 of whom were diagnosed with “influenza” based on a typical clinical picture (180 patients a week ago, 238 patients two weeks ago).

Over the past week, 6 people have died from the flu (a total of 55 since week 40, 2023). All the dead have also had several side ailments besides the flu.

The number of Covid-19 cases continues to decrease – 17 cases have been laboratory confirmed (a week ago 22), a total of 660 (previously 485) laboratory tests have been performed for the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. 17 Covid-19 patients are in hospital (36 a week earlier, 31 two weeks earlier).

3 deaths of Covid-19 patients were recorded last week (a week earlier - 6).
