Moderate activity in teenager vaccination in Latvia

Since June 2, 12-15 year olds are also vaccinated against Covid-19. On the first day, 175 children in this age group received the first shot of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, and data are still being entered, Latvian Television reported June 3.

On the second day, though, the interest was much smaller. For example, only six children in this age group were vaccinated at Children's Hospital, while other large vaccination centers and hospitals had very few records for this age group.

The vaccination project department of National Health Service said that the bookings in advance were filling slowly.

“After one day's activities, it is difficult to say, but in principle all indications show that teens aged 12 are also actively expressing an interest in vaccinating,” said Eva Juhņēviča, head of the National Health Service's vaccination project division.

“I think 175 teens on the first day – that means the interest is high enough. If we look at how the calendars for this group are filling up, then I can give an example that, let's say, on Saturday at the “ATTA Center” and in the House of Congress, there is a very dense booking. I would therefore like to say that interest is sufficient,” Juhņēviča said.

There are 82,008 inhabitants in Latvia in the age group 12-15.

12-13-year-olds are vaccinated with parental permission, but those who have reached the age of 14 can apply for themselves.
