More hospitalized Covid patients last week in Latvia

The number of Covid-19 cases decreased by 11.7% in the previous week from November 28 to December 4, with a total of 3124 cases, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

However, patient numbers in hospitals have continued to increase for the second week, an increase of 20.4% in the previous week.

Elsewhere in the European Union, there is also a tendency for an increase in morbidity. Overall, in Latvia, the incidence of Covid-19 is below the EU average.

Comparing the prevalence rate of Covid-19 infection from July to November in 100,000 recently vaccinated population (completed primary vaccination or got a booster within the last 6 months), the infection was found to be 1.9 times less frequent than in unvaccinated people.

Between July and October, the recently vaccinated were hospitalized 6.7 times less than the unvaccinated. On the other hand, fatal Covid-19 outcomes in vaccinated people were 10.1 times less prevalent than in unvaccinated people.
