"I personally have no concern that we will not succeed. The volume that we wanted to purchase from Latvenergo was also relatively small. There will be enough gas for the population," the mayor said. As reported earlier by Latvian Radio, concerns were raised on whether Rīgas siltums would have enough gas to provide Rīga this heating season.
At the same time, the politician acknowledged that Rīgas siltums only provides heat in the capital on the left coast of Daugava – Pārdaugava, but on the right coast it is provided by Latvenergo, on whose behalf he cannot speak. He said he relies on the Ministry of Economics' statements that the gas will be sufficient. “We have no reason not to believe that gas will be secured at this time,” the mayor said.
He said that this winter it would be considered more carefully when to start heating. At least half of the house should vote for the beginning of heating for it to launch, Staķis said.
