Three for the Weekend: Music for All

With the summer season truly beginning, there are tons of events to choose from both in Rīga and outside – and plenty to do even if you choose not to attend anything in particular. We have selected three very different musical events for you this weekend.

Zobens un Lemess Open Air

This one's for the metal fans. The traditional 'Zobens un Lemess' festival of metal, Baltic folk, and modern ethnic music takes place all weekend, starting Friday June 7 and ending when everyone wakes up on June 9.

Artists from Latvia, Iceland, Switzerland, Estonia, Sweden, Norway, Turkiye, and Lithuania will be on stage. Visitors will be able to take place in ancient and medieval activities – games, duels, archery, bagpipe contest, gem cutting, jewelry making, axe throwing, and more.

The festival takes place in the city of Bauska, the historic Castle Hill.

R&B Blues Festival

The annual international R&B Blues Festival takes place on June 8, starting 15:00 at the Ropaži Stage (Ropaži municipality), on the bank of the Lielā Jugla river.

Local musicians and guests from Nigeria and Poland will entertain you, as well as activities for the whole family will be provided. Children up to 16 years of age, if accompanied by an adult, have free entry.

More information on the festival's website.

Ticks

Yes, you read that right. Ticks. What most people in Latvia dread, has now been made into a performance.

On June 7, 8, and 9, an operatic performance "Ticks/Ērces", depicting the ins and outs of bug life, will be on stage at the Rīga Zoo.  The play is intended for the whole family, and you can also combine it with a visit to the zoo. The performance begins at 19:00.

You can read more about it on the Facebook page.
