Latvia summer festival guide 2024

Last year's list of the festivals you can attend in Latvia during the summer proved so popular we feel obliged to provide you with another one this year. The list is not exhaustive – in particular keep an eye open for the various town and city festivals that will be taking place across the country. 

June

June 5 to 8: Theater Festival No. 3

"Theatre Festival No. 3" will take place in Daugavpils from June 5 to 8. With this year's slogan "Latgale is close", the festival invites to promote changes in the perception of this region, believing that the theater is the right place to meet, listen to many voices and imagine a better future together. At the festival, guest performances will be performed by the Gertrude Street Theater, "Dirty Deal Teatro", Latvian Puppet Theater. There will also be Daugavpils theater productions and educational talks on and around the topic of theater.

June 7 to 20: Riga Festival

From June 7 to 20, the Riga Festival will delight the audience with six concerts. The program is stylistically diverse, for example, the opening of the festival will feature premieres dedicated to the planetary system. There will also be concerts dedicated to jazz music together with Matīss Žilinskis and Cuban vocalist Daimé Arosen. On the other hand, the concert "Charming Paris" will feature the music of César Frank, Claude Debussy, Lily Boulanger performed by violinist Darja Smirnova and pianist Roksana Tarvides. Pianist Georgijs Osokins and "Sinfonietta Rīga" will perform in the Dzintari concert hall.

June 7 to 9: "The sword and the plowshare"

From June 7 to 9, the heavy music festival "Zobens un lemess" in Latvia will take place in Bauska, which focuses on Baltic culture and contemporary ethnic music. This year, bands from Switzerland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Turkey, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will perform at the festival..

June 8: R&B Blues Festival 

On June 8, the "R&B Blues Festival" will be held on the stage of Ropažu Park, which will offer blues music, American atmosphere and Latvian landscape. Justin Lee Brown from Nigeria, the Polish group "Boogie Boys", as well as domestic bluesmen - "Latvian Blues Band", "Sugar Sugar" and "The Rollkeys" will perform at the festival. The special guests of the festival will be Aija Andrejeva and "Very Cool People" with the "Woodstock Renaissance" concert program.

June 8: Holi Music Festival 

The "Holi Music Festival" promises a colorful and musical adventure, which will take place this year on June 8 in "Wondersala". "Carnival Youth", singers Emilija, Greta, Patriša and rapper Prusax will perform at the festival, and there will also be a separate electronic music stage. The festival promises entertainment for visitors of all ages.

June 8: Saldus Schlagermarathon

On June 8, the popular music festival "Saldus schlager marathon" will be held for the 11th year on the stage of Saldus Kalnsētas Park. This year's program: bands "Klaidonis", "Apvedceļš", "Galaktika", "Zvaigžņu lietus", "Tērvete", "Dobeles Zemessargi", senior accordion ensemble "Akords" and others.

June 9 to 15: Time to dance  

The international contemporary dance festival "Laiks dejot 2024" will take place from June 9 to 15 in Riga and Stāmeriena with a diverse program of performances and master classes. This time the focus of the festival will be Portuguese contemporary dance. Venues of the festival: "Zirgu pasts" Theater House of the Latvian Academy of Culture, Eduards Smilģis Theater Museum, "Digital Art House", art center "Noass" and Stāmeriena Palace.

June 29 to August 25: Festival #VasaliGorā

Latgale embassy "Gors" invites you to meet again throughout the summer! The program of the "#VasaliGorā" festival from June 29 to August 25 will be a journey for connoisseurs of academic music. "Kremerata Baltica" chamber orchestra will perform in "Gors". "LNSO summer" concerts will also take place. A summery atmosphere will be created by movie nights on the roof terrace.

July 3 to 6: "Rhythms of Riga"

From July 3 to 6, the program of the jazz festival "Rīgas ritmi" will include foreign guests - Italian jazz guitarist Antonio Forcione, José James, known as the jazz singer of the hip-hop generation, bandoneon master Daniele di Bonaventura, who will perform with "Sinfonietta Rīga" and others masterful musicians. Latvian musicians will also perform at the festival: Matīss Žilinskis Trio, Jūlija Zakirova Quartet, Elizabete Lāce Trio, Ella Zīriņa Trio, Indrikis Veitners and Ēriks Miezis Quartet, Vadims Dmitrijevs Quintet, Toms Rudzinskis Quartet, Reinis Jaunais with Erna Daugaviete, and Klāvs Ābols Quintet.

July 5 to 6: "Stream"  

The third Latvian hip-hop festival "Straume" will take place on July 5 and 6 in Līgatne, in the "Zeit" creative quarter. The purpose of the festival is to honor the work of Latvian hip-hop and rap representatives. This year, the "Straume" program will include Bush, Finķis, Prusax, Marko and "Kreisais Krasts", Ūga, PCK 97, Steps, and Sudrabu Sirds. At the end of the festival, a performance of the newly created project "M.O.O.N.$.S.W.A.G.G." is expected, which will bring together rappers such as Ozols, Skutelis, ods, goča and Wiesulis.

July 5 to 6: "LAMPA"

From July 5 to 6, the annual conversation festival LAMPA will take place throughout the city of Cēsis, with a variety of discussions, shows, debates, parties, and an intellectual but fun atmosphere.

July 5 to 7: Burdona festival

From July 5 to 7, the sixth international Burdona festival in the "Suiti" ethnical land will be held in the Alsunga parish of Kuldīga municipality, with the motto "Protect the centuries". An exhibition of traditional art will be opened there, a festive procession and dancing will take place, the drum and bagpipe music band "Auļi" will perform, and there will also be a Grand Concert in Jūrkalne Windmill House. Venue – Alsunga and Jūrkalne.

July 6: Valmiermuiža ethnomusic festival

On July 6, the Valmiermuiža ethnomusic festival will take place on two stages in Valmiermuiža Park. This year, ethnomusicians from Portugal, Mongolia, Estonia, and Lithuania will visit the festival. The program will also feature a number of Latvian musicians: pioneers of the Latvian post-folklore movement "Iļgi", folk rock group "Laimas muzykanti", ethno-pleasure group "Ogas", acoustic ravers "Nielslens Lielsliens", master of meditative performances Harijs Vagrants.

July 9 to 11: Early Music Festival

From July 9 to 11 Rundāle Palace and Riga St. Peter's Church will host the Ancient Music Festival, whose program this year consists of six concerts. The world-renowned vocal trio "Trio Mediæval" will visit the festival. The program of the Latvian Radio Choir will include Bach's works from the Leipzig period and Vivaldi's violin concerto cycle "Seasons". On the other hand, the children will be delighted by the concert performance "Princess and the Pea".

July 12 to 13: "Bourzma Boutique 2024"

On July 12 and 13, the Festival "Bourzma Boutique 2024" will set in motion the ideas of sustainability both in fashion and in broader expressions of talent and culture at the VEF Quarter in Rīga. Designers will show their fashion collections at the festival, and a musical program is also planned at the end of each day.

July 13 to August 24: Art festival "Cēsis 2024" 

From July 13 to August 24, the art festival "Cēsis 2024" will gather visitors to cultural events at various venues. This year's program will include contemporary art as well as opera performances and much more.

July 13: "Zombiefest" 

On July 13, "Zombïfests" will be held in Vaive, Cēsis municipality, which will offer a program of heavy music, including bands such as "Bloody Heels" and "Māra".

July 12 to 14: "Good Nature" 

From July 12 to 14, the art and music festival "Laba daba" will take place for the 13th time at the recreation center "Ratnieki" in Līgatne. The main guests of the festival will be "GusGus" from Iceland. July 13 to 20: Jurmala festival

From July 13 to July 20, the "Jūrmala Festival" will take place in the Dzintari concert hall, which traditionally delightsthe audience with a thematically diverse program and music stars. For example, on July 14, organist Iveta Apkalna will give a sunrise concert on Dzintari Beach. Among the guests of the festival will be Barcelona Flamenco Ballet "Carmen", Julian Joseph Jazz Trio.

July 19 to 20: "Positivus" 

On July 19 and 20, the "Positivus" festival will take place in Lucavsala for the third year. This year, the main names in the festival program are Jason Derulo - author and performer of catchy pop hits, Jacob Collier - one of today's most talented representatives of jazz music, whose work crosses the boundaries of genres. The hip-hop branch will be represented by American rappers Ski Mask The Slump God, Danny Towers, British rapper Nemzzz and our own rap godfather Ozols will be on the biggest stage this time, we will also hear current Wiesuli and sangvn, Finki. Guitar music listeners will be delighted by the British "Nothing But Thieves", the Australian "Royel Otis", the Latvian "Satellites LV". The program also includes such groups as "KautKaili", "Purple Negative", the duo "Vēstulēs" and more.

July 19 to 20: "Hard & Heavy Festival" 

On July 19 and 20, the "Hard & Heavy Festival" will be held in Pāvilosta "Fontaine Rock City", the program of which will include alternative and metal music - from alternative rock to death metal. The festival will feature bands such as "Sanctimony", "Apēdājs", "Frailty", "Nostra", "Varang Nord" and others. There will also be guests from Poland - "Death Has Spoken", Finland - "Prestige" and Sweden's "Dark Reflection" and "Distance Between".

July 19 to 20: "Saulkrasti Jazz" 

In the middle of summer, on July 19 and 20, the "Saulkrasti Jazz" festival will take place on the Saulkrasti stage, which is currently one of the oldest festivals in Latvia. In its program, the final of the Baltic drummers' competition will take place, both master class participants and guests "Fred Wesley & The New JBs" from the USA, Latvian and Estonian cooperation "Login-Wibe quartet & Linda Kanter", US-Lithuanian cooperation "Young Lions Jazz" will take the stage.

July 24 to 28: Song Festival "Troubadour"

From July 24 to 28, the festival of singers "Trobadūrs" will take place in Renda, Kuldīga district. Its program will include various thematic concerts, including Imants Kalniņš's song night, a musical walk with poetry, bonfire song night and others. Musicians such as Kārlis Kazāks, Ieva Akuratere, Raimonda Vazdika, Ilze Grunte, Simona Rača-Rūce, Jānis Rūcis, Nora Ķbilda-Kinna, Reinis Jaunais, Anna Paula Gruzdiņa, Alice Kļaviņa, Anna Sēruma, Inta Pauluļuka, Laine Ligere-Stengrevica will take part in the festival.

July 26 to 28: Festival "Saldus saule" 

From July 26 to 28, the festival "Saldus saule" will gather the audience in Saldus Kalnsētas Park. July 26 to 28: "Elephant" 

From July 26 to 28, the festival "Zilonis" will take place in Renda, the program of which consists of alternative and metal music, Zaķis, "PND", "TESA", "Grunts", "I Refuse", "Baložu pilni pagalmi", "Asinis", "Overcast Rain" and other bands.

July 28 to August 3: Operetta Theater Festival 

From July 28 to August 3, the historic Ikšķile stage will host the Operetta Theater Festival, delighting the audience with six events, including the operetta "Mežrozīte" with the music of Raimonds Pauls, and the musical for the whole family "Karlsons". A concert and a waltz evening and other entertainments will abound.

August 2 to 4: Valmiera Summer Theater Festival

Between August 2 and 4, the Valmiera Summer Theater Festival will take place in various city squares and outside the city, showing eight premieres and three performances from previous years. This year, the main theme of the festival is life.

August 2 to 3: "Summer Sound" 

On August 2 and 3, the annual "Summer Sound" festival will take place on Liepāja beach, which has provided a topical and entertaining program. Among the big names are representatives of dance music Robin Schulz and "Offenbach", Finnish Käärijä and local "Bermudu divstūris", rap groups "Singapūras satīns", "Kreisais krasts" and "BandaBanda", popular groups "Astro'n'out", "Sudden Lights" and "Other Boys".

August 9 to 10: "Fest Phase" 

On August 9 and 10, the "Fest Fāze" will be held in the Zeltene Palace in Tukums region, offering a diverse musical program. "The festival is a springboard to the big stage for young artists. We have been focusing on young artists for more than four years, proving that they DO have a place in the Latvian music industry! This does not mean that there won't be bigger surprises!" the organizers say. In the festival program: Mauku sencis and Grandmasters Neons, "Carnival Youth", "Ziedu Vija", "Čipsis un Dullais", Luka, Emilija, "Inspo", "Purple Negative", Serpentīns, Indigo, "Embark", Sabine Mustermane, "The Tunes" and many others.

August 9 to 11: "Sansusī" 

From August 9 to 11, the eleventh alternative chamber music festival "Sansoussi" will take place in the residence center "Sansusī", Aknīste district, Susēja, which stands out for its magical atmosphere, green thinking and a program full of surprises, which is kept a secret until the last moment.

August 9 to 11: "Bauska Taste" 

From August 9 to 11, the "Bauska Taste" festival will take place in the park of Bauska Castle, and listeners of different ages will find something for themselves in the musical program. Among the main names of the festival are Latvian popular music classic Ainars Mielavs, Ukrainian pop star Ivans Dorns, Estonian electronic and indie-pop artist Noëp, musician Finķis, who combines hip-hop and rock music in his work, and Ivo Fomins.

August 9 to 11: "Potato Palm" 

From August 9 to 11 in Liepāja, the festival "Kartupeļpalma" curated by music journalist Uldis Rudaks will be held at the cultural center "Wiktorija" in Liepāja. August 17: Festival "Rocktagons" 

On August 17, the "Rocktagons" festival will be held in Ozolniekos, in the "Masti" quarter, the program of which consists of a series of rock groups "De Speakable", "Cut In Half", "The Tunes", "Garu pagrabs", "Askin", "Ambedo Act" and "Blind Shapes". The special guests of the festival are "Laime Pilnīga" and "Huskvarn".

August 21: Baltic jazz festival "Šķiuņa džezs"

From August 21 to 24, Baltic jazz musicians will meet with listeners in master classes and concerts at the "Šķiuņa džezs" festival. In the festival program: "Le Petit Paris", "Giedrė Kilčiauskienė Duo", Raitis Ašmanis Bigband from Jelgava, "Pulse Trio", and "NATO Bigband" from the USA will perform at the end of the festival.
