Baiba Braže joins New Unity party

Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže confirmed June 4 that she has joined the Jaunā Vienotība (New Unity) political party.

Braže was appointed to her ministerial portfolio on April 19 and had previously talked about the possibility of joining New Unity – which nominated her for the position – but so far had been serving on a non-partisan basis.

"Baiba Braže is not only an excellent professional with extensive experience and knowledge in the fields of foreign affairs and security, but is also a humane and sincere colleague," said a statement on the New Unity website, while Braže herself confirmed the information during a morning interview on the TV3 television channel.

Braže has not been a member of any political party during a diplomatic career of more than 30 years.
