Corruption cops swoop on municipal waste company

On June 5, the waste management company AAS Piejūra was searched and documents were seized, the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) confirmed to the newspaper "Tukuma Ziņas".

The investigative actions were carried out in the criminal proceedings initiated by KNAB on 18 March this year, which are being investigated for the criminal offenses of abuse of office for greedy purposes and falsification of documents for greedy purposes provided for in Article 318(2) and Article 327(2) of the Criminal Law.

Three persons involved in the criminal proceedings, including one public official, currently have the right to a defense.

No person is subject to precautionary measures in these criminal proceedings.

The KNAB is currently continuing its pre-trial investigations and consolidating the evidence obtained. In order to ensure a successful pre-trial investigation of the alleged offences, KNAB cannot provide further information on the criminal proceedings and the persons involved, representatives of the office explained to the local newspaper.

AAS Piejūra is engaged in waste management, its capital shares are owned by the municipalities of Talsi, Tukums and Jūrmala.
