Temperature tops 30 degrees Celsius for first time this year in Latvia

For the first time this year, the air temperature in Latvia has reached 30 degrees, according to the information of the Latvian Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology – and it's still May.

Tuesday afternoon, the air in Ventspils warmed up to 30.1 degrees Celsius. In the rest of the country, the temperature has risen to from 26 C to 29 C. The air temperature in Riga has reached 27.9 degrees, but is expected to rise a little more during the afternoon.

In Ventspils, this day also became the warmest May 28 since meteorological observations began.

It has already been announced that until May 31, the yellow warning for extreme heat is in effect throughout Latvia, as well as increased fire danger in forests in most parts of the country. Current warnings can be viewed on the warning page of the Latvian Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology at bridinājumi.meteo.lv.
