School renovation reveals message from WWII

A message from the time of the Nazi occupation was revealed at a school in Grobiņa, western Latvia, while it was renovated, reported LTV January 24.

The message, uncovered at the Grobiņa elementary school on a piece of plywood as a wall was being torn down, reads simply, "This was nailed to the wall in December 1942, when the Germans were here by us."

"It's just information. No material value to it.. During the German times, an infirmary or a headquarters was probably located here," said Aivars Poriņš, a home economics teacher at the school.

It will be added to a historical collection of artifacts found at the school, like old irons and a petrol lamp.
