2020 Latvian Olimpiade postponed

The Latvian Olimpiade won't be held as planned in 2020, as the competitions have been moved to 2022, the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOK) announced on December 11.

The LOK executive committee announced the tender for the rights to organise the V Latvian Olimpiade was closed without a result, as no one received permission. The municipality tender for organising the competition in 2022 will be held in 2021 after the administrative territorial reforms have been completed.

The committee also has asked the 2020 Latvian National Sports Council consider the concept for organizing sports events for youth and adults.

The first Latvian Olimpiade was held in the summer of 2004 in Ventspils, and the first winter games were in 2005/2006. The foundation is the olympic games tradition, where competitions are organized once every four years for athletes competing with municipal teams. The 2012 games were held in Liepāja, and the 2016 games were held mainly in Valmiera.
