Latvia has the highest number of participants - eight - in athletics, and four in each 3x3 basketball and in beach volleyball.
Latvian 3 x 3 basketball coach Raimonds Feldmanis told Latvian Radio that a thorough survey of opponents has been carried out. “Everybody's format is the same, pretty tough, a lot of games,” Feldmanis said.
Beach volleyball players Tīna Graudiņa and Anastasija Kravčenoka are expected to have tough counterparts from the United States and Brazil in the group tournament. The athletes themselves are satisfied with their work in training and their performance in the area.
Wrestler Anastasija Grigorjeva, who has always produced good results but has not yet got an Olympic medal will try to reconvene after previous failures, and high hopes are also placed on Latvian tennis players Jelena Ostapenko and Anastasija Sevastova, who will play in both singles and doubles tournaments.
The youngest Latvian representative will be swimmer Ieva Maļuka, who turned 18 this year. The most experienced athlete is beach volleyball player Mārtiņš Pļaviņš, who already has an Olympic medal.
The Tokyo Olympic Games, postponed from 2020, are due to take place in Japan between Friday, July 23, 2021 and Sunday, August 8, 2021.
