The ruling body of European soccer, UEFA, has banned the general director of Jūrmala football club "Spartaks" from the game for ten years.

At a meeting of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Commission this week, it was decided that former national team player Edgars Gauračs should be banned from engaging in any football-related activities for ten years in connection with allegations of fixing the results of matches.

Gauračs has been found guilty of violating a section of the UEFA Disciplinary Code on the integrity of games and competitions.

He was found guilty of violating three statutes involving "conduct which is likely to have an unlawful or excessive influence on the course and / or outcome of a game or competition for the benefit of itself or a third party".

The decision takes effect immediately.
