Sevastova through to second round in Baltic Open

Anastasija Sevastova defeated Varvara Flink with a score of 6-2, 6-1 in the first round of the WTA International series on Tuesday, July 23, in Jūrmala, according to tournament organizers. 

This was the first time that Latvia's #1 Sevastova, who is ranked No.11 in the world in ladies singles, played the Russian Flink, who is world No. 128. In the second round, Sevastova will take on Slovenian Dalila Jakupović, who ranks at No. 147.

It was also reported that on Tuesday, Latvia's #2 Aļona Ostapenko lost to USA's Bernarda Peru with a score of 2-6, 1-6.

Additionally, after a win on Monday, Latvia's #3 Diāna Marcinkēviča will advance to the second round. 

The clay court event will have a total draw of 32 and is a WTA International event with prize money of $250,000.The Baltic Open Tournament in Latvia is organized by the Russian sports marketing agency ONE SGM, moving the tournament from Moscow, where it was held in previous years.
